Maserati Back on Track! - Maserati test the new 'Trofeo'.
20th June 2002 - Track development of the Maserati Trofeo has started at the Fiorano test track in Italy. The Trofeo, a development of the new Coupé Cambiocorsa, incorporates a series of modifications for the track, including specific spring and damper ratings, racing bucket seat, a full safety roll cage, rear spoiler, uprated brakes, bigger wheels and tyres and a specially modified engine management unit.
With this test, Maserati commences a programme that will see the Marque return to the track next year. The Trofeo Maserati monomarque series, will commence in 2003 and will be raced over 7 rounds, at some of the most important circuits in Italy, France, Germany, Spain and England.
This track debut of the Maserati Trofeo represents the official return to motor racing for the 'Casa del Tridente'. In its motor racing Roll of Honour, Maserati can boast two victories in the Indianapolis 500 and a World Formula One Driver's Championship.
At the wheel of the car was Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro’s test driver Luciano Burti. Burti began testing at 11:30 am and ended at 6:30 pm in which time he completed some 50 laps recording a best lap time of 1 min 26.605 secs.
"First impressions? It's a nice car to drive. Today, we worked on the car step by step, making adjustments and additions, like the rear wing, without any major problems." said Burti. "We are still in the early stages in the development of this car and we are very satisfied with the progress made so far." |
